How do I fix microphone issues?

If you’re having trouble with your microphone while using Microsoft Teams in a browser, this guide will help you resolve the issue quickly. Follow these steps to troubleshoot and fix common microphone problems.

1. Restart your browser and device

Sometimes, a simple restart solves the problem. 

  • Close your browser.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Reopen the browser and return to Microsoft Teams. 



2. Test your microphone

Before joining your lesson, test your microphone to ensure it’s working. 

  • On Windows: Search for "Voice Recorder" in your device’s search bar and open the app. Click the record button, speak into your microphone, then play back the recording. If you can hear yourself, your microphone is working.
  • On Mac: Open QuickTime Player, click File > New Audio Recording, press the record button, speak into your microphone, then stop and play the recording. If you can hear yourself, your microphone is working.



3. Close other programs

If another application is using your microphone, Microsoft Teams won’t be able to access it. 

  • Close any apps like Zoom, Skype, or Voice Recorder that might be using the microphone.
  • Refresh your Teams page and try again. 



4. Select the correct microphone in Teams

Microsoft Teams might be using the wrong microphone.  



5. Update your browser

An outdated browser may cause problems.
