How do I fix audio issues?

Can’t hear your instructor during a Microsoft Teams lesson? Follow these steps to identify and fix audio problems quickly.

1. Restart your browser and device

Sometimes, a simple restart solves the problem. 

  • Close your browser.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Reopen the browser and return to Microsoft Teams. 



2. Test your speaker or headphone

Before joining your lesson, play music or video to check if your speakers or headphones are working. 

  • Open a music or video file using a media player (e.g., YouTube, Spotify, or your system’s default player).
  • Ensure the volume is turned up and not muted.
  • Listen for sound, if you hear audio, your speakers or headphones are working correctly.



3. Close other programs

If another program is using your audio device, Microsoft Teams may not be able to play sound. 

  • Close apps like music players (like Spotify or Apple Music), Zoom, or Skype that might be using your audio.
  • Refresh your Teams page and try again. 



4. Select the correct speaker/headphone in Teams

Microsoft Teams might be using the wrong audio output device. 



5. Update Your Browser

An outdated browser may cause problems.

6. Check Your Browser Permissions

Your browser may not have permission to use your speaker/microphone. Below are instructions for the most common browsers:

7. Check Your Audio Settings on Your Device 

Sometimes, your device settings might be set to the wrong output device or muted.

8. Try using another audio output

  • Connect different external speakers or headphones to check if the issue is specific to the built-in speakers.
  • If the audio works with an alternative output device, the problem may be with your primary speakers/headphones. 



9. Try a different browser or device 


If you still can't use the microphone, try using a different device or supported browser, such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Safari.
